Westmoreland State Park, Montross, VA

Westmoreland State Park is located on the Potomac River in Montross, Virginia, on Virginia's Northern Neck Peninsula . This was once a part of the US National Park Service system, and you will see reminders of this in the signs and design of the park.

We really enjoyed our visit to this park. There is a large swimming pool, a restaurant, a swimming beach, and plenty of hiking trails. It is possible to find fossils in the sand at the base of the cliffs. We visited during the off-season so we couldn't use the pool, but we had a lot of fun hiking and hunting for fossils. I also recommend a visit to George Washington's Birthplace, just a few miles down the road.

Some of the fossils and rocks we collected from the sand at the base of the cliffs. Can you find the shark's teeth?
