The campground is a giant field. There are plenty of sites with electrical and water hookups on the side of the field opposite the river. You can camp right next to the river if you want, but there are no hookups there.
You can rent several sizes of giant vinyl tubes for a lazy tubing trip down the river. If you have a canoe, the river is calm and easy to paddle most of the time. They also offer horseback riding. There are some fine backroad bicycle riding areas all around. The field is great for a game of catch or Frisbee.
Gripes: Our only gripe was that the tranquil setting was shattered by a very noisy motocross motorcycle rider zooming back and forth across the large field one afternoon. This stopped after we complained to the management a couple of times.
Watermelon Park is the home of Caterpillazilla.
The field. Sites with hookups are along
the tree line to the left. The river is just beyond the trees to the right.
Another view of our campsite.
A family of feral cats was living in the
woods right behind our site. At night, they came out and feasted on some
leftover Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.
