A
few of the other places we visited, but no pictures (links take you to
campground websites):
We stayed at High Meadow Campground while on
a several day vacation at Hershey Park. It was not the finest camping experience
that I've ever had. The campground was crowded and busy. With all the people
that come and go, the grass is worn bare in places, so when it rained,
it was a muddy mess. A Conrail main line passes right next to the campground,
and a large train rumbles through every half hour. For some people, this
may not be a big deal, but it really bothered me, especially when I was
trying to sleep. The staff was great, and they have a nice swimming pool.
There is a free shuttle that takes you right to the entrance of Hershey
Park. If you can deal with the train noise, it's not a bad place to stay
if you need a location close to Hershey Park.
Lake Fairfax Park is a county park located about
six miles from our house, and was the campground we chose for our maiden
voyage. We still go there when we just want a quick and easy camping trip.
They have a water park that the kids really enjoy. This is a great base
camp for visitors to Washington, DC.
This park features a small but new, clean campground,
a lake with swimming beach and hiking trails. The campsites all have EW
hookups and are paved. It's a great place to relax and just "camp".
Less expensive than it's neighbor, Camp Hatteras,
but with crushed gravel roads and unpaved sites it was dusty. Still, we
had a great time with with a site right next to the beach. The staff was
great and they have a nice pool. The kids love those little KOA tricycles.
This is a good stopover campground or a base
camp for visitors to Richmond. It's right next to I-95. (There's that noise
thing again.) But the staff was nice and it sure was convenient.
We stayed at Ferenbaugh while visiting Corning.
This is one of the better private campgrounds that I've stayed at. Most
private campgrounds try to cram the sites way too close together. Sometimes
I feel like I'm camping in an overblown parking lot. Ferenbaugh isn't like
this. The sites are spacious and well buffered from other sites. Beautiful,
heavily wooded setting. Great staff.
