October, 2000 Trip to Matthews Arm Campground, Shenandoah National Park

We made our first popup trip to Shenandoah National Park in October, 2000. In a different life I used to do a lot of backpacking and backcountry camping here, and it is a beautiful place.

Matthews Arm is one of four public campgrounds in the Shenandoah National Park. There are no hookps at the sites. Sites are well spaced and roomy.

Here's our campsite. That would be my very relaxed wife in the middle of the photograph.

Here's a whitetail deer in the campground.

Scott breaks sticks for the fire.

      Los hermanos.

We hiked the Traces trail that was in the area of the campground. Gotta find a good hiking stick first!

An old stone wall, one of several "traces" on the Traces trail.

Scott and Keith check out a large millipede.

      Caterpillazilla II!

The fall foliage was just starting to turn in early October.
