Welcome to our folding trailer page!

We have four people in our family, Jack (Dad), Stephanie (Mom), Keith (12) and Scott (7). I was an avid backpacker before I got married, and our family enjoyed tent camping for many years. Shortly after our first son was born in 1987, my wife and I started looking at popup campers. We visited showrooms and RV shows on and off for nearly 10 years. In early 1998, we purchased a Coleman Grandview SP Folding Trailer from Restless Wheels in Manassas, Virginia. I created this site to share some of our ideas and experiences with other folding trailer owners.

When we made the decision to buy a folding trailer, I set out to do some research on the Internet. I was interested in learning as much as I could about them. Which manufacturers and models are best? Worst? How does an ammonia absorption refrigerator work? What's a "cassette potty"? Do folding trailers leak when it rains? Before I set foot in the local RV dealership, I wanted to know everything there was to know about these contraptions.

I was surprised to find very little useful information on the Internet. Wes Fujii's Folding Trailer FAQ was very helpful, and the DejaNews archive of alt.rv.pop-up-trailers was also great source of information. But, personal web pages that dealt with the subject were almost non-existent. A fellow Coleman owner on the 'Net suggested a Web page where folding trailer owners could share their ideas and experiences, so I decided to build these pages and create a Folding Trailer/PopUp Camper Webring so that popup owners with WWW sites could link their pages together. Check it out! If you have a folding trailer or anything else that pops up, consider making your own website and adding it to the ring!

Coleman discontinued the Grandview SP folding trailer for their 1999 lineup. The 1999 Niagara replaces the Grandview SP as their top-of-the-line unit.

We're still very happy with our purchase and it really does see a lot of use. During the 1998 and 1999 prime summer camping seasons, we were out on average at least two weekends each month, with several longer trips as well. Our camping season begins in early Spring and lasts well into November, something we could not do in a tent. The popup is our "memory machine on wheels" and I know our sons will grow up with lots of great memories of our camping experiences.
